MRS BUFFET CATERING

The Potter's Wheel, Sun Street, Sunniside

A decent little find.

After hearing this pub had been taken over, we were keen to see how it had changed.  It has a small car park, which is shared with a neighbouring car business, so parking was quite difficult, we got the last space.  But, upon entering the pub, the decor is modern, fresh and it's nice and clean.

The pub is split into a cafe, which had a few people enjoying warm drinks and cakes (which looked amazing, definitely will be trying one on my next visit!)

We sat in the bar area, there were no other customers, though it was only 12.30pm on a Thursday.  The barman came across, he was pleasant, and handed us menus.  He explained that we had to order at the bar, once we had decided what we were going to have.

We all decided to have the chicken souvlaki, which was priced at only £5.95!  We shared a bottle of house pinot, between the three of us.  The chicken souvlaki was really tasty and the ingredients were fresh.  It was presented well and we didn't wait long for it to be cooked.

We had quite a wait before we saw a member of staff again, we had finished our main and wanted to order coffee and dessert.  In the end, after almost 20 minutes waiting, I went into the coffee shop and asked the girl working there for our coffees and desserts.

When I went to pay for the desserts I noticed the barman was playing pool - a bit more attention needed to the customers.  Staff were friendly, just not attentive.  Once you had ordered your main meal, they were no where to be seen in the bar.

On a whole, the food was lovely, desserts were beautiful - see photos below, coffees were also really nice.  Great value for money.  The lack of interest by the barman spoiled the overall experience a little.

It's not well advertised and it could do with external signage and a website with some photographs and menus, and more posts on social media promoting the lovely food. Maybe the staff could be more pro-active with this.  It's misleading if you are expecting a traditional pub, but we all enjoyed the food and will definitely go back!
